James's Story

NEWPORT - James L Martin 83 died unexpectedly Oct. 17, 2014 at his Newport home following a period of declining health. Jim was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, July 5, 1931, the son of Robert and Elizabeth Martin.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Germany. He received a Bachelors Degree in Physics from Perdue University. He was a self employed Computer Programmer for many years in Maine. He also was a Professor at Kennebec Valley Community College for several years. Jim was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing. He was a frequent visitor to "Tim Hortons" in Newport.

He is survived by one brother and his wife, Thomas and Ann Martin of Iron Mountain, Michigan, one son and his wife, Neil and Edith Shorey of Aurora, one daughter and her husband, Tammi and Timothy York of Newport whom he had made his home with for the past 18 years.
