James's Story

STEUBEN - James "Jimmy" Dunning went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 after a long bout with dementia, Alzheimer's disease and the recurrence of cancer. Jimmy was born December 8, 1927, son of the late James S. Dunning Sr. and the late Beatrice (Bedson) Dunning.
Jimmy loved the Lord. He was a faithful member of Steuben Union Church for 62 years and that is also where he married his wife, Phyllis on July 17, 1954. He served in the United States Army and was sent to the front lines for combat in Korea. For over twenty years, Jimmy was employed as janitor at the Knowlton Elementary School, Ellsworth School District. He was a huge fan of country western music and had hundreds of CDs in his collection. Jimmy was a member of the American Legion, Cherryfield Chapter.
Jimmy is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Phyllis M. (Colson) Dunning of Steuben, son-Kevin J. Dunning and his partner, Tracey Campbell of Baytown, TX, and brother- Donald Dunning, Sr.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Lisa Marie, at an early age due to a tragic car accident; both of his parents and brother- Robert Dunning.
There will be a graveside service for friends and family at the Steuben Village Cemetery on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 2pm with military honors. Pastor Gregory R. Hewitt will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jimmy's honor to the Steuben Union Church. Special thanks to the nursing staff at Narraguagus Nursing Home for their care and support.
