James's Story

JONESPORT - James Morgan Colbert, 82, of Jonesport, Passed away on April 28, 2015 with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Boston, Mass on February 24, 1933, the son of Lloyd and Mary Colbert. After he graduated from Braintree High School, he entered the USAF and served with the 509th Bomber Wing. He attended East Coast Aero Tech and got his A & E license. He worked on top of Mt. Washington in New Hampshire, testing jet engines for the effects of icing conditions. Soon after, he met and married his wife of 53 years, Brenda Sullivan. After spending 22 years in Weymouth and Middleboro Mass., he moved to Jonesport with his family.

Jim and Brenda owned and operated the Montgomery Ward Store in Machias and later, the JCPenney Catalog Store and Riverview Video. He and his dog, Nick, enjoyed going to work and socializing with the customers.

He was an avid golfer and member of the Herring Cove Golf Course on Campobello Island. He loved summer days on the water. He never tired of the beauty that he found in Jonesport.

Jim was a quiet man who loved his family deeply. He also loved his pets Skippy, Simon (the best dog ever), and many cat friends.

He is predeceased by his loving wife, Brenda, and survived by his daughter Susan and her husband Craig Lynn of Jonesport; Michael and his wife Barbara of Sherbourne, NY; Daniel and his wife Mirna of Somerset, Mass; Nancy and her husband Mark Roe of Orono, and David of Jonesport; grandchildren, Christine (Lunn) Hachey and her husband Jeff of Addison; Timothy Lunn and his wife Christina of Jonesport; Jack and Jane Roe of Orono, Julia and Stella Colbert of Somerset, Mass; great grandchildren, Joshua and Brooke Hachey; Brian, Abigail, and Emily Lunn of Jonesport.

At Jim's request, there will be no memorial service, but thank you for your thoughts and prayers.
