James's Story

ST. ALBANS & CARMEL - James Willard Butler, Sr., 76, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 9, 2014. He was born on November 6, 1937 in Newport, a son of Miles and Martha (Montgomery) Butler.

After graduation, James married Marilyn Langley of Pittsfield. They lived in Plymouth and Carmel and had six children: Kathy Neill of Bangor, Vicky Morrell of Carmel, James Butler Jr. of Bangor, Jill Lovley of Astatula, Florida, Mark Butler of Carmel and Melissa King of Arundel. He has thirteen grandchildren, Emily McDonough, Kelly Lovley, Thomas Neill, Ashley Butler, Stacey Morrell, Benjamin Butler, Jennifer Fitzgerald, Dustin King, Ashley Hellstrom, Eric Hellstrom, Darin King, Emily Shorey and Julia Butler. James also has nine great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. James loved the Lord and enjoyed attending church and gospel concerts. He loved his family and enjoyed family camping trips to Prince Edward Island and Sunday drives with his family. He also loved to take road trips to New Hampshire, Vermont, New York and PA. He was an avid hunter. He loved old cars and was proud of his 1968 Oldsmobile Convertible. He won many ribbons at Owls Head Transportation Museum.

James worked most of his life as a mechanic. In the early years he owned his own garage in Carmel Village. In the late 70's he became a truck driver for St. Johnsbury and was a member of the Teamsters Union, Local 340. He spent his retirement years in St. Albans.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Maynard and Marshall Butler, three sisters, Leola Cushman, Margaret Greenleaf and Mary Ellen Butler.

Visiting hours will be at the Crosby Neal Funeral Home at 117 Main Street in Newport from 4:00 to 6:00pm on Sunday.

Funeral services will be held at 2 P.M. Monday, October 13th, at Jubilee Family Worship Center, 63 Elm Street in Newport with Rev. George Finnemore and Rev. Matthew Lovley officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Newport. Those who wish may leave written condolences at www.CrosbyNeal.com
