Jacquelyn Irene Leavitt passed away at home July 16, 2016, at age 89, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 14, 1927, the daughter of Olive and Merle Smith of Franklin.
She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Sharland Lewis Leavitt of Ellsworth; their eight children, Paula Leavitt of Kennebunk, Charles Leavitt and his wife, Donna, of Ellsworth, Debra Leavitt of Franklin, Andrea Pape and her husband, Fred, of Cumberland, Timothy Leavitt and his husband, Jerry, of Petaluma, Calif., James Leavitt and his wife, Audrey, of Lamoine, Lynne O'Connor and her husband, Jim, of Cape Elizabeth and Stacy Calabrese and her husband, David, of Northborough, Mass.; her sisters, Eleanor DiBella and Sandra Ingalls; and her brother, Douglas Smith, all of Franklin; 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by daughter-in-law, Karen Leavitt; sister, Bev Allen; and brother, Ronnie Smith.
Jackie's passions were reading, playing golf and travel. She was also an accomplished painter whose inspiration came largely from Maine's unique and beautiful coastlines, beaches, mountains and lakes. Her biggest passion however was her husband and family. She was a dedicated and selfless wife, mother, grandmother and sister, who passed her enthusiastic spirit, wonderful sense of humor and loving care to everyone who had the good fortune of knowing her.
The family would like to acknowledge with deep gratitude Jackie's Hospice caregivers who took such loving care of her in the final months of her wonderful life.
A family Mass will be held 8 a.m. Thursday, July 28, at St. Joseph's Church, 231 Main St., Ellsworth. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Jacquelyn's name to: The Emmaus Homeless Shelter, P.O. Box 811, Ellsworth, Me 04605-0811.
