- Irene P. Martin passed away in her home on Friday, May 26, 2017, in Hampden, Maine, surrounded by her loving family.
Irene was born on April 28, 1941, in Bangor. In her early years she was raised in Frankfort; however, later moved to Brewer after the death of her father, Vincente, and was raised by her mother, Mae, from early age of five. She graduated with honors from Brewer High School in 1959 and four months later, married the love of her life, Gordon Martin. Irene spent her life caring for her family and was involved in the plumbing and heating business as an employee and later as a business partner for twenty years.
Irene loved family, friends and the outdoors. She camped and fished whenever she could. Two of her favorite places were Hadley Point on Mt. Desert Island and Bowlin Pond on the East Branch of the Penobscot. She was usually the one who caught the most fish and won at cards!
Irene is survived by her husband, Gordon, of 58 years; her daughter, Kim and husband, David Haggan, and their children, Jenny and Nick; her son, Eric, and daughter-in-law, Lisa, and their children, Matthew and Erica; brothers, Edward, Eugene and Everett; and sister, Virginia. Two other family members that must be mentioned due to the love and care they gave Irene in the end of her life are her niece, Pam Pellon-Irwin and her son, Irene's great-nephew, Victor Irwin.
Friends and family are invited to the Haggan's, 11 Westbrook Terrace, Hampden, next Saturday, June 3, from 3-6 p.m. to celebrate Irene's life.
