Imogene's Story

MILLINOCKET - Imogene M. Mason, 87, died Thursday, June 30, 2016 at a Bangor hospital after a brief illness. She was born February 20, 1929 in Millinocket, the daughter of Milton and Flora (Gaskin) Higgins.

Emmie grew up in Millinocket, and worked as a gatekeeper for the Woodlands Department of Great Northern, Georgia Pacific, and Bowater paper companies. Many people will remember Emmie and her husband, Lloyd, from their work at the Debonskeag and 20 Mile gatehouses on the Golden Road.

She is survived by her son, David Mason and his wife Jean of Salem, New Hampshire; a daughter, Marie Campbell of Houlton; two special nieces and caregivers, Mary Higgins and Carol Arey; five grandchildren; and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her parents, Emmie was predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Mason, and a daughter, Lois Buckingham.

Graveside services will be held 1 P.M. Tuesday, July 5 at the Millinocket Cemetery with Pastor Herschel Hafford officiating.
