Ida's Story

MILFORD - Ida L. Whiting, 94, the loving wife of Harry "Torsey" Whiting, who predeceased her February 16, 1977; died peacefully May 28, 2015 at Orono Commons. She was born July 23, 1920 in Milford the daughter of Edwin and Lyndel (Smith) Treadwell.

Ida's favorite part of her life was her family; she always had a hug ready for anyone who wanted one. She was the happiest when she was making something for her family, whether it be cooking or knitting. She worked at the Lewis S Libby School in Milford as an assistant cook until her retirement and was also an active member of the United Baptist Church of Old Town.

She is survived by her children; Marie Willette of Milford, Mickey Whiting and his wife Mary of Greenfield, H.I. Whiting and his wife, Joyce of LaGrange and Neola Preble and her husband Carl of Colorado. She is also survived by her brother Shirley (Jake) Treadwell of Milford and her sister, Geneva Eastman of LaGrange, ten grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.

Ida was predeceased by her husband, her parents, her daughter, Janice Poage and her granddaughter Lori Anne (Willette) Pete. Also her brothers Clarence, Waldo, Derwood Treadwell and sisters, Imogene Schaffer, Angie Trott, Winona Hesseltine, Myrtle Sherman, Joyce Buxton and Glennis Treadwell; her son-in-laws, Donald Poage, Richard Willette, and daughter-in-law, Marion Whiting.

Friends may call Sunday May 31 at Birmingham Funeral Home 438 Main St. Old Town, ME from 6-8pm. A Celebration of Ida's life will be conducted at United Baptist Church of Old Town 10am Monday.

The family would like to thank Orono Commons for the care they gave to Ida during the last three years, as well as a special thanks to the Beacon Hospice for the care they gave Ida in the last few weeks.
