- Hope Etna (Ellis) Sweitzer, 89, of Fredericksburg, PA, passed away quickly and peacefully on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at the Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital, Lebanon, PA. She was the wife of the late Donald F. Sweitzer who died in 2010.
Born in Castle Hill, ME, on August 22, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Byron Ellis and Josephine Welts. She was predeceased by her step-father Sterling Ellis and half-brother Carl Ellis. She was a graduate of Presque Isle High School, class of 1945 and completed Normal School in 1949. Her passion for education led to her receiving an additional bachelor's degree from University of Maine in 1981. She retired in 1989 from the Delaware state school system where she had been a teacher, research librarian, and computer educator for 18 years. She enjoyed music, quilting, genealogy and her IPad.
She is survived by her daughter Priscilla Lorah (Joseph) of Ruskin, FL, and granddaughters Melissa and Samantha Bravo (Daniel); daughter Cynthia Dwyer of Cortland, NY, and grandchildren Hilary and Christopher; and daughter Carol Daughton (Robert) of Boston, MA, and step-grandson John (Sarah) and step-great grand children Jack and Liam.
Services will be held on Saturday, May 6th 2017 at 3:30 p.m. from Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home, 5 Camp Meeting Rd., Jonestown, PA 17038 and a small service on May 8th, 2017, 9:00 a.m. at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery for her final resting place with her husband Donald, an Air Force veteran. A visitation will take place from 3:00 p.m. to 3:30 prior to the service at the funeral home.
