BANGOR - Henry "Hank" Woodhull Brown Jr., 86, died April 27, 2014, at a local hospital. Hank was born September 23, 1927, in Providence, R.I., the son of Henry Woodhull Sr. and Gjetrude Synove (Owren) Brown.
Hank served for 30 years in the U.S. Military, rising to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force where he met his wife of 64 years, Martha Mathilde Roebig, in Germany. As a couple, Hank and Martha traveled together in the Army and Air Force - twice to both Alaska and Brazil, as well as to Germany, Maine, Panama and Guatemala. Hank was a member of the Bar Harbor Lodge #185 AF & AM. He was also a member of the Hudson Baptist Church.
Hank was a true gentleman who was always ready with a compliment. He had a great sense of humor, especially with his brother, Erling. He loved to garden, spending many hours tending his organic garden.
Hank is survived by his daughters, Kristen Hayes and her husband, Robert, and Rebecca Brooks and her husband, Robert; five grandchildren, Sarah, Nicolas and Tristan Hayes, Jennifer Mooney and Justin LePage; five great-grandchildren, Dylan and Kylie Hayes, Quinn Warner, Jaidyn and Levi Mooney; his brother, Erling Owren Brown; and his sister, Nancy Hanks. In addition to his parents, Hank was predeceased by his brother, George W. Brown.
The family wishes to thank Hank's cousins, the Carcieris, the Owrens and the Thortons, all of whom were very special to him. They also would like to thank the entire Brown family for their love and kindness, which will be remembered and cherished forever.
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. May 10 at Hermon Baptist Church, 2496 Rte. 2, Hermon, with the Rev. Garnett Chute officiating. A reception will follow the service. Interment with Military Honors will follow the reception at Hudson Cemetery, in Hudson.
