Helene's Story

VAN BUREN - Helene Dube, 80, died peacefully Friday morning, August 28, 2015 at a Van Buren healthcare facility. She was born April 1, 1935 in St. Leonard, NB, Canada, a daughter of the late Eddie and Adele (Dionne) Gauvin, being raised in Notre Dame de Lourdes.

Helene was a devoted wife and mother, doting on her husband and children. She enjoyed sewing, tending to the family's flower gardens and prided herself on her cooking. She always made herself available to help her family and friends with babysitting.

She is survived by: her husband of 60 years, Reginald Dube of Van Buren; six children, Priscilla Milligan and her husband Kent of W. Hartford, CT, Marlene Ouellette and her husband John of Van Buren, Michael Dube and his long-time companion Marie Deschaine, Philip Dube and his wife Missy of Newburgh, Louise Bouchard and her husband James of Cyr Plantation, Lisa Whitehair and her husband John of Rochester, NY; two brothers, Roger and Rudolphe Gauvin of Notre Dame de Lourdes, NB, Canada; six sisters, Simone Gauvin of Edmundston, NB, Mona Desjardins of Notre Dame de Lourdes, NB, Marie Francoeur of St. Jacques, NB, Ginette Jandreau and Colette Ouellette, both of Caribou, and Roberte Gauvin of Edmundston, NB; 11 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Helene is predeceased by her siblings, Parise Gauvin, Velma Martin, Germaine Gauvin, Gaetane Gauvin, Juliette Levesque, & Regina Gauvin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Monday, August 31, 2015, at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family 9-10:30 AM Monday morning at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren. Burial will be in Grand River Cemetery, Van Buren.
