Helena's Story

EAST MILLINOCKET - Helena "Winkie" (Grant) Bartlett, age 80 years,

passed away on January 5, 2015 at Eastern Maine Medical Center. Winkie

was born on March 8, 1934 in Columbia Falls, Maine, the third child of

Maynard and Lena(Merritt) Grant. She graduated from Columbia Falls

High school, eventually making a home in East Millinocket , Maine

where she operated her Beauty Salon from her residence.

Winkie was a very caring Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Friend. She was

a very active and adored member of the Tri-town Baptist Church. Always

eager to help others, she was easy to love and will be hard to forget.

Avid reader, seamstress, knitter, excellent baker, and cook with

whoopie pies that were second to none. She was known to graciously

host dinner parties and special events at her home for her many

friends, family and neighbors to enjoy. Talented and skilled she was,

and also high in wit!

Winkie has sadly left behind her husband of 41 years, Sonny of East

Millinocket, son Timothy Whynot and his wife Kristen of Bangor;

brother Dr. Vergil Grant and his companion Virginia Penniman; sister

Dorrice Austin and husband Ron; her favorite aunt Edna Atherton;

grandson James Michael Whynot and granddaughter Kara Beckwith. Many

nieces and nephews. Also, a very dear friend, Darrell Lyons and his

wife Karen. And a special young lady, Leah "Cinderella Princess"

Chicoine and we can not forget her kitties, Sadie Louise and Milo.

She was predeceased by her parents, a daughter ; Susan, and three

sisters; Susie Emerson, Nadine McClusky, and Arlene Knight.

Winkie will be sadly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing

her. She is now resting in peace with the Lord.

Friends are invited to visit with the family 5-7 P.M. Friday, January

9 at the Lamson Funeral Home, 17 Western Avenue, East Millinocket.

Funeral services will be held 1 P.M. Saturday, January 10 at Tri Town

Baptist Church, 8 Cone St., East Millinocket. Spring interment will

be at the East Millinocket Cemetery. Messages of condolence may be
