DIXMONT - Harry Wilson, 68, died Nov. 4, 2015 at his Dixmont home following a long illness. He was born in Hartland, Aug 19, 1947 the son of Floyd E. and Charlotte Smith (Rowe) Wilson.
He attended Dixmont Schools and was a graduate of Hermon High School and Southern Maine Vocational Technical School. He was a U. S. Navy Veteran during the Vietnam era, both active duty and reserve, and held positions as a Machinist and with the Seabees.
He was married to Darlene (Weymouth) Wilson who predeceased him on May 28, 2003.
Harry was a self-employed carpenter for most of his working life. He worked most recently in the Dixmont area, but previously had built sporting camps in the northern Maine woods.
Harry was once described as a "guide, handyman, and outdoor philosopher". A more truthful statement could not have been made. Harry's stories, sense of humor, and willingness to use his talents to help friends and neighbors were well known.
He is survived by his son Brian Wilson and wife Tammy of Dixmont, his daughter Tiffany Wilson and her husband Andrei Kurbatov of Orono, his sister Shirley Ellis of Old Town, his brother "Fuzzy" Wilson of Dixmont, four grandchildren; Baylee, Bruce, Peter, and Lydia, his uncle Arthur Rowe and wife Dorothy, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He will also be remembered by many special friends.
A celebration of Harry's life will be held Nov. 14, 2015 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Dixmont Gold Crest Riders Snowmobile Club on the Cates Road in Dixmont.
