Harry's Story

NEWPORT - Harry Nason, 94, passed away September 20, 2014 at a Pittsfield hospital. He was born July 15, 1920, in Newport, a son of Thomas and Elida (Heald) Nason.

He attended Newport High School and was employed at Judkins and Gilman store in Newport, Moosehead Woolen Mill in Corinna, and 39 years as a clerk for Maine Central Railroad in Newport and Waterville. He belonged to the Newport Fire Department for 28 years, retiring as Chief in 1972. Harry was a devoted member of the People's United Methodist Church of Newport.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 73 years, the former Dorothy Hartley of Newport. They wintered in Leesburg, FL for 24 years and summered at Piper Pond in Abbot. Harry loved to fish and hunt and work in his garden in his younger years. He was an avid Red Sox fan.

In addition to his wife, Harry is survived by 2 daughters, Shirley Colson of Fuquay Varina, North Carolina, and Brenda and husband, Gregory Mrowka of Old Orchard Beach; 4 grandchildren, Cheryl Harris of Hartland, Debbie Peppard of Pittsfield, Doug Colson of Plymouth, Deanna Myer of Rochester, MN, and their spouses, with special thanks to Alex and Tim for their loving support; 5 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Harry is also survived by 2 brothers-in-law, Earl and Daryl Hartley. He was predeceased by 3 brothers, Thomas, Richard and Elton "Posey" Nason.
