BANGOR - Harry Charles Durando, 85, died peacefully May 26, 2016 at the Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor. He was born April 2, 1931 in Union City, NJ, son of Edward H. and Louise (Nurge) Durando.
Harry was a U.S. Air Force Retired Senior Master Sergeant and he traveled extensively while in the service. Following his retirement from the military, he was Sales Manager for the Prudential Insurance Company in Dallas, TX. Upon moving to Bangor in 1994, he was employed in the Appliance Dept. at Home Depot where he made many friends. Harry was an active and committed member of the Columbia Street Baptist Church and served in numerous capacities including Treasurer. He was also a member of Euclid Lodge of Masons and the Scottish Rite Bodies of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ.
Surviving are his loving wife of 64 years, B. Elissa (Morrill) Durando of Bangor; nieces, nephews, cousins and special in-laws, Ellen Gay, Judith Burton and Larry and Jeanine Lavigne.
A memorial service with military honors will be held 11 am Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Family Reception Center of Brookings-Smith, 163 Center Street, Bangor immediately following the service Wednesday.
