Harriet's Story

ORONO - Harriet Ann Hesseltine, 87, went to be with the Lord and Savior on March 15, 2016, at Orono Commons with her family by her side. She was born May 21, 1928, in Enfield, Maine, the daughter of Joseph and Arlene Rollins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by five sisters, Alma, Joyce, Josephine, Jackie and Clydie; and three brothers, Henry, Orision and Anthony. She was also predeceased by her first husband, Arthur Commeau; her second husband, Norman Hesseltine Sr.; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Hesseltine. Mom is survived by four daughters, Flossie and her husband, Gary Betters, Susan and her husband, Rick Martin, Norma and her husband, Ricky Vaillancourt, and Paula and her husband, Tim Tidwell; and three sons, Robert and his wife, June, Wayne and Norman Jr. and his wife, Helen. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, Robin, Wade, Allen, Sherwood, Robert Jr., Heather, Rebecca, Debbie, Julie, Karen, Steven, Scott, Ann and Wendy; many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Our mother was a hard worker, always caring and giving for others. She loved her family very much and we loved her. We are happy to know that she now is truly home.

There will be a private graveside service only, at her request, at Lawndale Cemetery in Old Town. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in memory of Mom to the Alzheimer's Association, Maine Chapter, 383 U.S. Route 1, Suite 2C, Scarborough, Maine 04074 or http://www.alz.org/maine/in_my_community_donate.asp.
