Harold's Story

BAILEYVILLE - Harold A. Smith, age 87,passed away at his home in Baileyville on July 28 after a long illness.

He was born on Nov. 29, 1927,the second son of George O.and Lona Call Smith. A graduate of Woodland High School class of 1945, he went on to serve 9 years in the U.S. Merchant Marines and traveled the world. He married Margaret E. Mulholland of Princeton,ME in Aug. 1952.

Returning to his hometown in 1954, he worked on the installation of Number 4 paper machine at the old St.Croix Paper Co. mill. Harold also worked on the construction of Cutler Naval Station

and base housing at Loring Air Force Base. He then went to work full time at the Woodland mill, starting as a pipefitter helper, and advancing to pipe shop foreman. He was a maintenance supervisor in the steam plant at the time of his retirement in 1985.

Harold's hobbies included: hunting, fishing, gardening,and woodworking. He spent many hours improving and enjoying his "camps" on Meddybemps Lake, Oak Bay, N.B., and the Grand Falls Flowage. He was a former member of the Woodland Spednic Club.

Harold was predeceased by his wife Margaret(Midge)Smith. He is survived by an older brother,Floyd Smith of Hemet,CA and three sons Stephen of Ewing,NJ, William of Norfolk,MA,and Brian of

Baileyville. He had two grand children Emma R.Smith of Dover,NH,and Nathaniel W. Smith of Norfolk,MA.

According to the wishes of the deceased, there will be no viewing or memorial service.

The Smith family would like to thank the friends of "Bungy" Smith for their loyalty and support.
