WINTERPORT - Harold F. Forrest, 85, passed away peacefully, May 20, 2014 at the Maine Veterans' Home in Bangor. He was born in Newburgh, Sept. 13, 1928, the son of Benjamin and Viola (Newcomb) Forrest.
Harold served in the U.S. Army as an M.P. during the Korean War. He was a mechanic for most of his life and retired from North East Chrysler in 1982 to pursue his passion of beekeeping and start a roadside vegetable stand in Winterport. He was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Catholic Church of Winterport, and a 54 year member of Argonne American Legion Post # 138 of Winterport. Harold was always working to provide for his family but enjoyed fishing at Grand Lake and going to the Blue Hill Fair when he found some free time.
The legacy of his life is the family that he loved dearly. His wife of 60 years, Teresa (Hatch) Forrest, his three children, Marg and Steve DiMillo, Debra and Charlie Colson and Steve and Patty Forrest, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by nine siblings.
Family and friends are invited to visit 5-7 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2014 at Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Avenue, Hampden. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2014 at St. Paul the Apostle Parish St. Gabriel's Catholic Church, Main Street, Winterport. Interment with military honors will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery, Winterport. Memorial gifts in Harold's honor may be made to Cancer Care of Maine, C/O EMHS Foundation, P.O. Box 931, Bangor, ME 04402-0931.
