- Gweneth Ann Smith Emery, 85, died unexpectedly Nov. 22, 2016 at a Pittsfield Hospital following a long period of ill health. Gwen was born in Atkinson, Me. Sept. 30, 1931 the daughter of Leon A and Verlie L (Doore) Hall.
She was a graduate of Foxcroft Academy and Farmington State Teachers College.
She taught first grade at the Fruit Street School in Bangor for several years and following her marriage she taught first and second grade at the Eastland Elementary School in Corinna for many years.
Gwen was predeceased by the father of her children Harold O. Smith in 1978. She married Donald W. Emery Jr. in 1997.
Gwen was a long time active member of the High Street Congregational Church in Newport where she was a former member of the board of trustees and several ladies groups. She as a former member of the Newport Cultural Center Board of Directors, a member of the Newport Historical Society, a former member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the Mainely Doll Club in Bangor, a member of the DAR of Maine. She loved her summers at their cottage at Sebec Lake. She loved collecting and refurbishing her Doll Collection, knitting, reading, and watching her birds at her many feeders.
Gwen is survived by her husband Donald W. Emery Jr. of Newport, her son and his wife Jayson and Marjorie Smith of St. Albans, her two daughters Helen and her husband Bill Huff of Thetford, Vt., Jantha Gray of Dover-Foxcroft, her step-son and his wife, David and Carol Emery of Newington, CT, her step daughter and her husband, Elaine and Tim Morse of Bristol, CT, six grandchildren Janet, Tyler, Abby, Elise, Daniel , Emily, 5 great grandchildren, Ayden, Kaleb, Henry, Jade, 2 step-grandchildren, Gregory and Brian. She was predeceased by her parents, her first husband, her grandson, Willis Carlow and her brother Nathan.
Memorial services will be conducted 1 PM Sat. Nov. 26, 2016 at the High Street Congregational Church 24 High Street Newport, with Pastor Ernest Campbell officiating. Friends who wish may make memorial donations to the High Street Congregational Church 24 High Street, Newport, Maine 04953.
