Eddington - Grita M. Carson-Preston, 85, died Jan. 24, 2017 in Bangor after a period of declining health. She was born Jan. 11, 1932 in Guerette, Maine, the daughter of Ligorie and Selma (Rossignol) St. Pierre.
Grita was one of 13 children who grew up in northern Aroostook County to be an independent, feisty woman of faith. She resided with her husband in Crawford for many years in the home they built on Love Lake. Grita enjoyed the outdoors and Maines wildlife and she liked to hunt and fish. While living in Eddington, she was a member of the Clifton Baptist Church. Grita was also a conservative who supported Pres. Trump and enjoyed watching Fox News.
Surviving are five children, Phyllis Peacock and her husband, Raymond of Mashpee, MA, Glenna Demers of Minot, Carolann Rys and her husband, Danny of Cape Coral, FL, David Carson and his wife, Bonnie of Glenburn and Wayne Carson and his wife, Terri of Dumfries, VA; 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; two sisters, Madeline Guerrette of Caribou, Delores Fahey and her companion, Stephen of Bangor; three brothers, Herman St. Pierre and his wife, Evelyn of Eagle Lake, FL, Philip St. Peter and his companion, Donna of Fort Fairfield and Bernard St. Peter of Lewiston; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends may visit 3 7 PM Thursday, Jan. 26, 2017 at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. A service honoring Gritas life and faith will be held 2 PM Friday, Jan. 27, 2017 at Clifton Baptist Church, 742 Airline Road, Clifton with Rev. John P. Walsh, presiding. Burial will be in the spring in Crawford. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Food Pantry, Clifton Baptist Church, 742 Airline Road, Clifton, ME 04428.
