Gordon's Story

CASTINE - Life-long Castine resident, Gordon Wood, 70, passed away October 13, 2014, at his home after a brief battle with cancer. Gordon, loving husband of Mary W. Wood and son of Merwyn and Myrtle Wood, was born on September 3, 1944.

Gordon and Mary were married on April 5, 1998. It was the first marriage for both of them. They lived a life of love and care and were well known throughout the Castine community. After graduating from Bucksport High School in 1963, Gordon worked with his father raising chickens and cutting firewood on Rte. 166-A until his father's death. Gordon was also employed at Maine Maritime Academy. Gordon had four brothers and a sister, Arleen Wood, who predeceased him. She was several years older and cared for him as a son.

Gordon was also predeceased by his mother and father. Gordon loved his sister and father. Gordon was well liked. He was kind, gentle and always friendly. He suffered from acute hearing and vision losses and as a result of these deficits it was believed that Gordon was intellectually challenged. He was not. He was an intelligent, funny, good-natured man who spoke his mind. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Gordon's remains will be laid to rest in the Pine Tree Cemetery, Brownville Junction, Maine. Funeral arrangements are by Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. Condolences and memories may be expressed at www.laryfuneralhome.com.
