Gloria's Story

VEAZIE - Gloria Elaine (Avery) Salisbury was born March 25, 1928, and passed away on January 7, 2015, with family at her side. She was the daughter of Frank and Helena (Kneeland) Avery of Milford. Gloria graduated from high school in Everett, MA, then took Continuing Education classes at the University of Maine, Orono, where she also worked at the bookstore. Gloria was a devoted humanitarian. She worked as a teacher's aide in the Union 90 school system while raising her family; later, she was the Activity Coordinator for several area nursing homes. She had great empathy for the elderly and was dedicated to deepening her knowledge of the needs of the elder population. Gloria was known for a life of service to others through the Milford Congregational Church, various hospitals, nursing homes, and My Friend's Place in Bangor.



Gloria had great love for her family. She is survived by Galen, her dear husband of 64 years, and her three sisters, Natalie Adath Stormann of Milford, Nadia Rand of Old Town, and Betty Lee Comstock and her husband, Arthur, of Orono. She was pre-deceased by her very special aunt, Natalie (Kneeland) Lindsay of Lincoln. Gloria is survived by her three children and their families; Brian and wife, Brenda (Grant) Salisbury, their son Toby Salisbury, and great-grandson, Teddy Hanson. Her daughters are twins; Susan is married to Stephen Dupuis of Lincoln, their children are Sarah (Dupuis), husband, David Hainer, great-grandchildren, Ainsley and Isaac Hainer; Joshua and wife, Erica (Walton) Dupuis, great grandchildren, Harley and Kaydence Walton; Brian Dupuis and fiancée, Autumn Nanartowich, great-granddaughter, McKenna Nanartowich. Brian and Autumn are expecting the newest great-grandchild later this month. Susan's twin, Sally Salisbury, lives in Prescott, Arizona, and her children are Isaac and Emily Frankel of Chicago and Prescott.



Gloria Salisbury will be remembered for her generous spirit and a life of service to others. A Celebration of Life will take place at the Milford Congregational Church on Sunday, January 11, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, Gloria's family requests that donations be sent to: My Friend's Place, Attention: Skippy Valentine, 703 Essex Street, Bangor, ME, 04401, in memory of Gloria's giving spirit and those struggling with all forms of Alzheimer's and Dementia.
