- Gladys "Peggy" (Kinney) Young, 94, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday August 13, 2016, at a Caribou health care facility. She was born April 25, 1922, in Wade, the daughter of John and Myrtie (Butterfield) Kinney.
Peggy grew up in Gardiner Creek, Maine, with her five brothers and sisters. In 1937 she met the love of her life, Eugene Leonard Young, whom she married on June 4, 1938. Gene and Peggy had four children together: three sons, John, Dennis and Robert, whom they raised together in their home in Washburn, and one daughter, JoAn, who passed away a few hours after birth. Peggy had a deep faith in God, which was evident to all who knew her. She taught Sunday School for 23 years at Washburn Pentecostal Church, where she impacted the lives of many children. No children were more impacted by her life and love though than her two grandchildren, Stephen and Tanya. Many memories were made with her grandchildren; playing school, picking berries, picnics at Grand Falls, summer trips to Kings Landing and countless walks together to and from their homes. In the end though, the most important lesson she passed on was the importance of prayer and a steadfast faith in God. Peggy was also a talented seamstress and enjoyed sewing many of her own clothes, as well as those of her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and loved to bake sweets, and of course, enjoyed them with a great cup of tea.
Peggy was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Eugene Young; her daughter, JoAn Carol Young; her brothers and sisters, Crystal "Kitty" O"Neal, Ethel Spooner, Floyd, John Jr. and Gordon Kinney. She is survived by her sons, John Young and his wife, Dianne, of Caribou, Dennis Young and his partner, Tommy, of Sonoma, CA., and Robert Young and his wife, Barb, of Mystic, CT. , her grandchildren, Tanya (Young) Belanger of Monroe, NC, and Stephen Young and his wife, Kristen, of Fort Fairfield; along with two great-grandchildren, Abigail and Sydney Young of Fort Fairfield.
A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at Crouseville Cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Blakney officiating. Online condolences may be shared at
