VEAZIE - GLADYS L. (STEPUTIS) CLEMENS, 95, PASSED AWAY PEACEFULLY MAY 9, 2014 FOLLOWING A MASSIVE STROKE IN VEAZIE. SHE WAS BORN APRIL 7, 1919 IN CLAYSVILLE, PENNYSLVANIA, TO WILLIAM AND CLARA (SMITH) HUNTER.

GLADYS GRADUATED FROM TRINITY HIGH SCHOOL IN WASHINGTON, PA, AND ATTENDED THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA WHERE SHE MET AND MARRIED WALTER STEPUTIS. GLADYS AND WALTER RAISED THEIR FOUR DAUGHTERS IN LOCK HAVEN, PA, AND MOVED TO VEAZIE IN 1961. SHE LATER COMPLETED HER COLLEGE EDUCATION GRADUATING FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF MAINE WITH A BACHELOR'S DEGREE IN NUTRITION. SHE THEN PROUDLY TAUGHT HOME ECONOMICS FOR TWO YEARS AT BREWER HIGH SCHOOL. FOLLOWING THE DEATH OF WALTER IN 1972, GLADYS TRAVELED TO VISIT RELATIVES AND FRIENDS SHARING HER HEALTHY COOKING SECRETS WHEREVER SHE WENT. WONDERFUL SMELLS OF COOKING AND BAKING WERE EVER PRESENT AND SHE PASSED ON THOSE SKILLS TO HER DAUGHTERS. GLADYS RECONNECTED WITH AND MARRIED HER HIGH SCHOOL SWEETHEART, L. ERWIN CLEMENS IN 1992 WITH THEIR SEVEN ADULT CHILDREN AS ATTENDANTS. GLADYS AND ERWIN LIVED HAPPILY IN WASHINGTON, PA, THEIR HOME TOWN, UNTIL HIS DEATH IN 2010. GLADYS LOVED GARDENING, FLOWERS, COOKING, BAKING AND DOING FOR OTHERS WITH KINDNESS AND COMPASSION. SHE WAS A PROLIFIC LETTER WRITER AND KEPT IN TOUCH WITH EVERYONE SHE KNEW. SHE HAD AN AMAZING WORK ETHIC FUELED BY FARM LIFE AND LIVING THROUGH THE GREAT DEPRESSION. SHE RARELY SAT DOWN. CHURCH EVENTS WERE A CENTRAL PART OF HER LIFE. SHE WAS ACTIVE IN THE CHURCH OF UNIVERSAL FELLOWSHIP, VEAZIE COMMUNITY CHURCH AND WAS A FOUNDING MEMBER OF THE VEAZIE GARDEN CLUB.

GLADYS WAS PREDECEASED BY HER PARENTS, HER BROTHER, KENNETH, HER FIRST HUSBAND WALTER, HER DAUGHTER SHARON AND THE LOVE OF HER LIFE, ERWIN. GLADYS IS SURVIVED BY THREE DAUGHTERS, NANCY GROFF OF PROSSER, WA, LINDA BEUTEL AND HER PARTNER BILL OF VEAZIE, SUSAN WELLS AND HER HUSBAND CLIFF OF VEAZIE; THREE GRANDCHILDREN, MELANIE LEIGHTON AND HER PARTNER PATRICK, BILL BEUTEL AND MICHAEL WELLS; AND SPECIAL GREAT GRANDDAUGHTHER VICTORIA LEIGHTON. ALSO SURVIVING ARE HER LOVING CARE GIVER IN WASHINGTON, PA,STEP-DAUGHTER L. ELAINE CLEMENS MOWER AND HER HUSBAND RICHARD, STEP-DAUGHTER LARUE CLEMENS OF SOUTHBURY, CT, AND STEP-SONS LARRY CLEMENS AND WIFE LINDA OF SCHECKSVILLE, PA, AND LYNN CLEMENS OF LAKEWOOD, CO, AS WELL AS MANY COUSINS, NIECES, NEPHEWS AND FRIENDS.

INTERMENT AND GRAVESIDE SERVICE AT THE PROSPERITY, PA, CEMETERY WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT A LATER DATE.
