Gisela's Story

BANGOR - Gisela Marga Ursula Wittig Lucas, our beloved mother has passed away on November 24, 2015, at the age of 89. She was born in Braunschweig, West Germany on December 7, 1925.

Gisela served during World War II with the German Armed Forces for 2 years, and then served with the British Division for 3 years after the war. In 1958 she made the journey to America to raise her family. She demonstrated tremendous strength and endurance as she raised her 3 children after her divorce. She has inspired our traditions of mounds and mounds of Christmas cookies that must be baked at the holidays and our love of flowers and gardening. She was happiest spending time with her pets and exercising her artist talents. We recall with endearment the German Bar songs she sang while she worked in the kitchen.

Gisela is predeceased by her son Harald Lucas, and survived by her daughters Marilynn Veilleux and Mary Caulkins and her husband Elden. Also survived by her grandchildren Monica Pelletier, Tina Fickett, Amy Lucas, Travis Veilleux, Stephanie Veilleux-Welch and Zachary Veilleux. She is also leaving behind 7 great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Beckett Veilleux, Elijah and Reina Welch, Thomas and Christopher Fickett, and Gabriel Lucas.

A service will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Funeral Home, 300 State St. Bangor, on Monday, Nov. 30th at 11:00 officiated by the Reverend Dr. Rex Garrett.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society.
