VAN BUREN - Gilberte Thibodeau, 85, died unexpectedly Friday, November 14, 2014, at a Caribou hospital. She was born December 2, 1928 in Drummond, NB, Canada, a daughter of the late Paul and Annie (Parent) Theriault.
Gilberte worked as a housekeeper with former Van Buren Community Hospital for over 25 years. She was a parishioner of St. Bruno-St. Remi Church, Van Buren, and also attended Mass at the Congregation of St. Joseph Church, St. Leonard. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Columbiettes. She enjoyed volunteering at Borderview Rehab and Living Center, visiting residents and assisting their beano games. She was well known for her homemade baked goods and especially her hand-knit pichous.
Gilberte is survived by: four sons, Daniel Thibodeau and his wife Yvonne of St. Leonard-Parent, NB, Canada, Robert Thibodeau of Bristol, CT, David Thibodeau and his wife Linda of Terryville, CT, and James Thibodeau and his wife Barbara of Van Buren; two daughters, Lina Gibson of Hamlin and Velma Thibodeau of Presque Isle; one brother, Levite Theriault of Levis, QC, Canada; two sisters, Rita Ouellette of Grand Falls, NB, Canada and Therese Owen of Plainville, CT; many grandchildren and great grandchildren
Besides her parents, Gilberte is predeceased by two daughters, Evelyn and Barbara Thibodeau, two sons, Gilbert and Raymond Thibodeau, and two granddaughters, Sharon and Barbara Thibodeau, brothers Noel, Rene, Jean, and twin brother Gilbert Theriault, three sisters, Lina Laforest, Marthe Ouellette, and Claire Bonenfant, and a long-time companion, Edgar Gervais.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church, Van Buren. Relatives and friends may greet the family on Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM and Tuesday morning, 9-10:30 AM at Lajoie Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren.
