Gilberta's Story

WINTERPORT AND DANFORTH - Gilberta M. Spinney, 90, wife of the late Burton Spinney, passed away October 9, 2015, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born December 9, 1924, in Bancroft, the daughter of Forrest and Eleanor (Thompson) Irish.

Gilberta loved to knit, crochet and make quilts.

Her family would like to express special sincere appreciation to Helena, without whose assistance the last 19 days would have been impossible.

She is survived by a daughter, Peggy Sisson and very special son-in-law, Charles Sisson, of Winterport; four sisters, Betty Barto, of Florida, Maxine Olmstead, of North Carolina, Dorothy Manor, of New York, and Sally Michlette, of Maine; a son-in-law, Lester Day, of Danforth; three grandchildren, Tracy Day-Kemper, and Robert, of Oklahoma, Larry Day and Kim, of Kenduskeag and Charles Sisson and Martha, of Winterport; nine great-grandchildren, Devin Kemper, Patricia, Travis and Taylor Sisson, Alyssa Day, Amanda Wallace, Jennifer Ramsey and Zac and Vanessa Conners; one great-great-grandson, Dominick Sisson. In addition to her husband, Burton, she was predeceased by two daughters, Patricia Day and Sheila Spinney; three brothers, Fred, Franklin and Curtis Irish; and one sister, Larene Spinney.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, October 18, at Danforth Hilltop Cemetery with the Rev. Peter Grenier officiating.
