Gertrude's Story

Waterville - Gertrude M. (Ouellette) Corbin, 96, went to the Lord on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at Maine General Rehabilitation in Augusta after an extended illness. She was born on October 31, 1919, in Grand Isle, a daughter of Mack and Anna (Cyr) Ouellette. She was married to Emery Corbin, who predeceased her in February 2009. Gertrude worked as a physical therapist at Sisters Hospital for six years and Seton Hospital for 20 years, retiring in 1980. Gertrude dedicated her life to her husband, her three sons and her wonderful grandchildren. "Gert" as she was known to her family and friends, loved life, laughter, playing cards, traveling, fishing and spending time with family and friends. She was an avid Red Sox fan, rarely missing a televised game. She was cherished by her family and friends and will be greatly missed. Gertrude is survived by her three sons, Gerard of Carrollton, Texas, Ronald and his wife, Lise of Augusta, and Norman and his partner, Kathy Wallace of Waterville; two brothers, Gerard Ouellette and his wife, Benita of Grand Isle, and Henry Ouellette of Cheshire, Conn.; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren, Susan Corbin Quintero and her husband, Arthur and their sons, David and Corbin, John Corbin, Kathy Corbin Zeve and her husband, Marc, David Corbin and his wife, Jennifer and their children Ryan and Allison, Steve Corbin and his wife, Roseanna and their children Drew and Colette, Jeff Corbin and his daughter, Ava, Victoria Corbin and her daughter, Allison, Ryan Willette and his wife, Jen and their four children, and Kris Wallace; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Gert was predeceased by two sisters, Germaine and Lena; eight brothers, Lewis, Neil, Roy, Homer, Camille, Clarence, Norman and Leo Ouellette; and her daughter-in-law, Helen Corbin. The family wishes to thank the staff of Glenridge Nursing Home in Augusta for their dedicated care of Gertrude. Visiting hours were from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, September 19, 2016, at Veilleux Funeral Home, Waterville. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 20 at Notre Dame Catholic Church, Waterville with burial following in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Waterville.
