HOULTON - Geraldine C. Dunn, 89, wife of the late David B. Dunn, passed away Monday October 5, 2015 at Madigan House with her sister at her side. She was born February 15, 1926, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Kenneth and Myrtle (Weaver) Cogswell.
Gerry grew up in Fort Fairfield and then moved to Hodgdon and attended and graduated from Hodgdon High School class of 1944. She was also Winter Carnival Queen, Miss Houlton as well as a Maine Potato Blossom Contestant. Upon graduation she started teaching at Hodgdon Corner School and also worked for Dunn Furniture Company. On October 23, 1949 she married David B. Dunn to whom she would be married for 33 years and whom he affectionately called "Ole Geraldine." She worked along side David at Dunn Funeral Home for many years, and worked as a Mary Kay consultant for over 40 years. Gerry excelled in various sports including golf, basketball and bowling. She was Houlton Community Golf Club Ladies Champion, as well as an excellent bowler winning many tournaments at the ELKS Lodge. She was a longtime member of the Houlton Wesleyan Church and supporter of the Houlton Wesleyan Womens Christmas Coffee.
She leaves behind three daughters: Jodi Peabody and her husband Ronny of Hodgdon, Jane Dunn of Cape Coral, FL, Jennifer Carmichael and her husband Danny of New Limerick, grandchildren: Barrett Peabody, Jason Grant, Micah Peabody, Jessica Jacobson, Joshua Mooers, Sam Matthews, Justin Mooers, David Carmichael, Stephanie Mooers, Abrahm Carmichael, 14 great grandchildren. She will also be missed by two sisters: Norma Bates and Lavina Byron of Houlton, a brother William Cogswell of New York, NY, a brother-in-law Frank B. Dunn of Houlton, several nieces and nephews whom she adored, a "special daughter" Jeannie Cunliffe. In addition to her parents and husband David, she was predeceased by her great granddaughter Mattie Jacobson, three brothers-in-law, George Bates, Eugene Byron, John B. Dunn, two sisters-in-law Harriet and Sandra Dunn, and a nephew Donald Dunn. Gerry's family would like to extend their sincere apprecition for the loving care provided by the staff at Madigan Estates health-care facility and to Dr Abouleish, Dr. Husted, and Dr. Jiansakul, and her personal nurse Carole Bates.
Friends may call 12:30PM Friday October 9, 2015 at the Houlton Wesleyan Church where services will be held at 2 PM with the Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating. Interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery following the service. The family invites relatives and friends to a "tea party" at the church fellowship hall following the interment.
