Geraldine's Story

NEWBURGH - Geraldine Althea "Geri" (Smith) Carr, 74, passed away Dec. 31, 2014 at her home in Newburgh. Geri was born Feb. 10, 1940 in Troy, the daughter of the late Harold and Inez Smith of Hampden.

Geri worked various jobs over the years. She worked for Merrill Bank, Ansewn Shoe Co., Tax Collector for the Town of Newburgh. She was also employed as a CNA at Brewer Rehab and Living Center and the Maine Veterans Home, Bangor and worked in the Seniors Program at the Bangor Career Center. She enjoyed many crafts including knitting sweaters, making Afghans and baking cakes. She also enjoyed going for car rides and eating out. Her passion was spending time with her family.

Geri is survived by her husband of 54 years, Vernon Carr of Newburgh; two children, Michael Carr of Newburgh and Melissa Carlstad and her husband, James of Hampden; sisters, Inez Buxton and Betty Roach and her husband, George of Hampden; a brother, Donald Smith and his longtime companion, Donna Bedard of Hampden; sister-in-law, Virgina Powers of Waterboro, a niece, Cathy Wolfe and her husband, John of Waterboro; a nephew, Tom Powers, Jr and is wife, Irene Powers of China; former sister-in-law, Mattie (Carr) Lawrence of Virginia Beach, VA; nieces and nephews, Roger Carr and his wife, Lynn of Boone, NC, Judy O'Brien and her husband, Ken of Drake's Branch, VA; several other nieces, nephews and cousins. Geri was predeceased by a brother, William "Billy" Smith; a sister, Gloria Smith, and in-laws, Frank Buxton and Tom Powers, Sr. and Mattie Lawrence's Husband Clarence Lawrence. She will be remembered by good friends, Stanley and Judy Badger of Eddington.

Geri's request was to be cremated and buried privately in Newburgh. Arrangements by Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, Brewer and Bangor.
