Geraldine's Story

Corinna and Exeter - Geraldine M. Batchelder, 93, died September 24, 2016, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. She was born January 21, 1923, in Exeter, a daughter of Lester and Myra (Goudey) French and stepdaughter of Lula Stevens French.
She was a member of the Corinna American Legion Auxiliary. She was very creative and talented. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, cooking, crafting, gardening, canning, entering contests, playing Bingo, and occasionally enjoyed the horse races. For twenty years, she enjoyed driving school bus. Geraldine's happiest achievement was attending cosmetology school and having the pleasure of starting a beauty shop in her own home. After retiring, she and her husband, Dennis, spent winters in Lakeland, FL and summers in their home in Exeter. She gave up her home in Florida in 2007 and moved to Corinna in a home next to her son.
She is survived by a son, Malcolm and wife, Kathy Batchelder of Corinna; a daughter, Dennise and husband, Yves Poulin of Old Town; 5 grandchildren, Daren Batchelder of FL, Gavin and wife, Sonja Batchelder of Veazie, Gabriel and wife, Wanda Poulin of Corinth, McLean and wife, Nancy Poulin of Hampden; a step-granddaughter, Lisa Chamberlain Sawyer and husband, Bill of Newport; 7 great-grandchildren, Hannah and Abby Batchelder of Veazie, Grant, Gage, and Gabrielle Poulin of Corinth, Rece and McKayla Poulin of Hampden; a stepbrother, Albert Stevens of CT; nephew, Dana Leavitt and his wife; and Geraldine's very dear friend, Barbara of St. Albans.
Geraldine was predeceased by her husband, Dennis; 2 sisters, Pearl Nutter and Leatha Leavitt; a brother, Franklin French; 2 stepbrothers, Archie Stevens and Ernest Stevens.
Graveside services will be held at 1 P.M. Monday, October 3rd, at the Exeter Center Cemetery with the Rev. Terry McKinley officiating. Arrangements are by Crosby & Neal Chapel, 68 Exeter Road, Corinna. Those who wish may leave written tributes at www.CrosbyNeal.com
