Gerald's Story

BRADLEY - Gerald A. Richards, 89, husband of Pauline D. Richards, died Oct. 23, 2014 at Orono Commons. He was born July 17, 1925 in Old Town, the son of John and Mabel (Dawes) Richards.

Gerald was a US Army veteran of WWII. He worked in area shoe shops most of his working career and the last 17 years were spent working for James River in Old Town. Gerald married Pauline Jipson in 1957 and moved to Bradley in 1960. He had been a member of the Bradley Baptist Church since 1969 where he loved to sing and where he served as the church custodian for many years. In his younger years, Gerald enjoyed playing slow pitch softball, semi-pro baseball, bowling, hunting and fishing.

Surviving in addition to his wife of 57 years of Bradley are three daughters, Rosemary Adams and her husband, Gary, Barbara Nadeau and her husband, Jamey, Suzanne Delaware and her husband, Daniel; grandchildren, Trish Bates and her husband, Ryan, Brad Adams and his wife, Lynn, Brittani Nadeau and Abby Delaware; one great grandson, Brock Bates; a brother, Reginald Richards and his wife, Gerry; sisters, Verna Joy and her husband, Alvin, Darlene Polk; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Robert Richards and Arthur Richards; sisters, Laura Brodeur and Vera Bishop. Gerald's family especially thanks Orono Commons for their exceptional care and compassion for the last three years.

A memorial service will be held 1 PM Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014 at the Bradley Family Worship Center with Pastor Randy Washington, presiding. Private burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery Bradley at a later date.
