Gerald's Story

PRESQUE ISLE AND LIMERICK - Gerald L. Oakes, 63, formerly of Presque Isle and Limerick, died suddenly on February 6, 2016, at his mother-in-law's home in North Waterboro. Gerald was born on January 28, 1953, in Presque Isle, the son of Warren H. and Catherine M. (Curtis) Oakes.

For many years Gerald worked in a variety of positions with the Levesque Lumber Company in Ashland. While attending classes, Gerald met his future wife and soulmate, Karen Iovine. They have shared 24 years of marriage, raised four children and opened their hearts and home to many throughout the years. Gerald became a "stay-at-home" dad so Karen could pursue her nursing career. The kids were more than happy with Dad being in their lives on a daily basis. He provided transportation back and forth for school events, was a great cook in his own right, and kept the house neat and tidy. You could always find his smiling face in the stands on the many soccer games he attended.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Karen Oakes; his children, Danny Jasper, Toni Berube, Debra Berube and Scott Berube Jr.; his sister, Charlotte Oakes; his four brothers, Warren, Neil, Carlton and Peter Oakes; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; his stepchildren, Albert and Angela Robichaud and Elaine Dongan; one niece and seven nephews. Gerald was predeceased by his parents.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 11, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Autumn Green Funeral Home, 47 Oak St., Alfred. Following the service, you are invited to visit with Gerald's family and enjoy light refreshments until 4:00 p.m. Committal prayers and burial will be later in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Animal Welfare Society, P.O. Box 43, West Kennebunk, ME 04094. The Autumn Green Funeral Home is respectfully handling arrangements.
