Yarmouth - Gerald M. Murphy, 87, passed away peacefully March 23, 2017, at Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough. "Jerry" was born December 13, 1929, in West Enfield, the son of Ronald and Lottie (Faulkner) Murphy.
Once Jerry turned 17, he decided to venture out and see what the U.S Navy had to offer. In January of 1947, Jerry found himself in Maryland in Recruit training; from that point on, Jerry proudly served his country for just over 21 years. In 1968, Jerry retired as Chief Petty Officer. Following his service in the Navy, Jerry and his wife Rita, and three children moved to Yarmouth, ME and Jerry went to work at CMP, retiring in 1991.
Jerry loved to play cards, shoot (and hustle) pool, going for walks, and watching the Sox and Patriots play.
Jerry is survived by his three children, Deborah Emerson and her husband Chris of Yarmouth, his son Michael Murphy of Litchfield, daughter, Diane Whispell and husband Joe of Durham; grandchildren, Amanda Whispell of PA, Benjamin Whispell of Rangeley, Brittany Emerson of Scarborough; sisters, Mildred Savage of Lincoln, Ruth Dolley of Lincoln, Charlotte McPheters of Old Town, Mariam Smith of Veazie, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jerry was predeceased by his loving wife of 55 years Rita and 12 of his siblings.
A Celebration of Jerry's Life will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, April 1, 2017, at Lindquist Funeral Home, 1 Mayberry Lane, Yarmouth, ME 04096.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations go to Alzheimer's Association Maine Chapter, 383 US Route One #2C, Scarborough, ME 04074.
