Gerald's Story

ORLAND - Gerald L. Guse, 71, of Orland died June 11, 2015 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Gerald was born in Bangor, May 24, 1944 son of Leroy and Marion (Christman) Guse.

He grew up in Veazie and Prospect, graduating from Bucksport High School. After graduating from Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, Gerald went to work in Massachusetts for Ion Physics as a technician installing and operating Van de Graff Generators from Universities and research sites around the country and Europe. In 1976 he moved home to work for St. Regis in the Bucksport paper mill as an instrument technician. He worked at the mill for many years, through transitions of three corporations, primarily in the Coating and Kraft Prep areas. Gerald and his wife Claire have grown and sold choose and cut Christmas trees at their First Frost Farm for the last 19 years. Gerald was a plumbing Inspector for over 30 years, serving the towns of Orland, Verona Island and Prospect. He also served as Code Enforcement Officer in Orland and Verona Island and served many years on the Orland Planning Board.

Gerald is survived by his wife Claire and daughter Erica of Orland, and Laura Hadley and grandchildren Katie Rideout and Peter Strout, all of Westbrook. Gerald was predeceased by his parents and sister, Joan Probert of Searsport.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Friday June 19, 2015 at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home 28 Elm St., Bucksport with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Gerry loved Orland and the surrounding communities. In his travels as Plumbing Inspector, he got to know the area and the people living here very well.
