George's Story

Middletown, NY - George Turner Smith Jr., January 1, 1939-October 10, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Brenda Sue (Klofkorn). Daughter Robbin Smith Colandrea and husband John. Grandchildren, Susan and Stephen. Brother and sister in law, Jon and Gail Smith. Niece, Heidi Nichols Baldacci, nephews Barrett Nichols and Adam Smith. As well as great nieces, nephews and many friends. He was predeceased by parents George T. and Dorothy Reel Smith Sr., and step mother Margaret A. Smith. A graduate of Meyers High School, class of 1956 and Penn State University, class of 1960. George's career in the lumber industry took him from Bridgeport CT to Boston, NJ, Maine, NY and finally Atlanta with Georgia Pacific (Bluelinx). George and Brenda retired back to Ashland Maine, recently relocating to NY to be near family. George was a 32nd degree Mason, past church deacon, Mont Alto Alumni committee, and involved with the Atlantic Salmon reintroduction in Northern Maine. An avid fly tier fisherman and hunter, his happiest times were at Trout Lake Camp, overlooking the lake with a scotch and his friends and family.
