Bangor and Dexter - George W. Sawtelle, 88, died December 8, 2016, at his granddaughter's residence. He was born December 6, 1928, in Dexter, a son of Earl and Agnes (Bates) Sawtelle. He served in U. S. Army during the Korean War as a first scout, first line on Heartbreak Ridge.
George worked with his father in the woods and later became a skilled carpenter. He was a member of the Subordinate, Pomona, State, and National Grange.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn; 3 sons, Anthony Sawtelle and Albert Sawtelle both of Dexter and Terrence Sawtelle of Bangor; 2 daughters, Caroline and husband Eric Pooler of Old Town and Constance Strickland of Topsham; a brother, Elmer and wife Jeannie Sawtelle of Dexter; a sister, Jean Edgerly of Dexter; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
