George grew-up on family dairy farms in Hampden, Newburgh, Garland, and Bradford before settling in Levant. He left the family farm at the age of 17 to join the Navy. Upon his return to Maine, he obtained a position as a foreman at Kagan-Lown in Bangor, which eventually relocated to Old Town.

In 1977 he left the shoe industry to own/operate his first "mom and pop" store with his wife. They operated Morse's Grocery on Center St. in Bangor until 1987. After the sale of this store, they purchased Ye Ole General Store on Route 2 in Carmel. They operated this store until 1990. At which time, they purchased Pizza Pop's on Hammond St. in Bangor. After 2 years, they sold the business and moved to San Diego, CA, to be with their daughter and first grandchild, Jonathan (Willie) and to help take care of his ailing father-in-law. They later moved back to Maine and have resided in Winterport for the last 21 years.
George was a dedicated family man with a love for travel and all family oriented activities. In his spare time, he avidly researched the Morse family ancestry. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Pine Cone Council #114 and Assembly 339.
