MILLINOCKET - George E. "Hank" McLean, 83, passed away Thursday, October 30, 2014, at a Bangor hospital with his family by his side. He was born June 17, 1931, in Millinocket, the son of Allen and Margaret (Barnett) McLean.
Hank grew up in Millinocket and was a graduate of Stearns High School. He served in the National Guard and then joined the Army. After his military service, he returned to Millinocket and worked for his brother, John, at the Red & White Grocery Store in downtown Millinocket. After a period of time, Hank and his brother, Robert, bought the store and it became McLean's Shop 'n Save, eventually moving to the present site of Hannaford's. Hank was a member of Elks Lodge #1521, B.P.O.E. in Millinocket, and was on the board of directors for NPT Region 3 in Lincoln. In spare time he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Roxanna, and spending time with family. His friends in the "Morning Coffee Crew" at the Scootic Inn will miss his daily visits and fellowship.
Hank is survived by his wife of 53 years, Roxanna (Farquhar) McLean of Millinocket; two daughters, Tracy McLean of Glenburn and Libby McLean of Levant; a sister, Patricia Pratt of Macwahoc; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Hank was predeceased by thirteen siblings.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 10-11 a.m. Friday, November 7, at the Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, with a memorial service beginning at 11 a.m. Interment will be at the Millinocket Cemetery.
