BREWER AND CINCINNATI, OH - George Stanley Lindeman, Jr., 90, died February 12, 2016, at Sunbury Village, Bangor. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 28, 1925, the son of Mary and George Lindeman.
George graduated from Roger Bacon High School and entered the Air Corps in 1943. He completed Bombardier School in 1944. George retired from the Air Force in 1965 and received his BS Degree from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1966, MED in 1969, and CAS in 1973. He began his teaching career in 1966 at Brewer High School and became chairman of the Social Studies Department in 1967, where he remained until 1985. His affiliations included the Knights of Columbus, the Retired Officer's Association, The Elks, and was Past Commander of the American Legion, Daniel E. Geaghan Post, member of the NEA and the MTRA. George was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Brewer, serving as Lector and Eucharistic Minister for many years. He gave many volunteer hours at Cole's Land Transportation Museum.
George is survived by a daughter, Ann Lindeman, and her husband, Scott Greeley of Winslow; stepchildren, Beth Dalton and her husband, Mike of Hampden, John Lucas and his wife, Debra of Bowdoin, and Martha Lucas of Los Angeles, CA; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and special cousins of St. Louis. George was predeceased by his devoted, loving wife, Polly in 2014; and a brother, Robert Lindeman.
Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 PM, Wednesday, February 17, at the Brewer Chapel of Brookings-Smith, 55 S. Main Street, Brewer. A Funeral Mass will be held 11 AM,Thursday, February 18, at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 531 N. Main Street, Brewer. Interment with Rite of Committal and military honors will be held in the chapel at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta.
