George "Jeff" F. Washburn III, 72, of Laconia, NH, and formerly Rutland, VT, died August 29, 2016. He was born May 30, 1944, in Presque Isle, ME, the son of George Franklin and Ruth (Lancaster) Washburn II.
Jeff graduated from the University of Maine in Orono. He was the franchise owner and operator of the Rutland Kentucky Fried Chicken for many years. A 26-year member of Grace Congregational United Church of Christ, he served as a deacon and drove the seniors in the church van on many excursions. He was a hospital and nursing home volunteer in Vermont and New Hampshire, and volunteered at the Paramount Theatre. Jeff was a longtime motorcycling and bicycling enthusiast. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Washburn of Laconia, NH; a daughter, Leigh Truhan of Rutland Town; two stepsons, Carmen Corvigno of Woodbridge, CT, and Greg Corvigno of Southbury, CT; grandchildren, Hannah, Kenny, Alyssa, Christina and Serafina; a sister, Pamela Coffey-Paine of Bangor, ME; a niece and a nephew. He was predeceased by his first wife, Pamela Ann Washburn, who died December 15, 2005; and a son, Jared Washburn.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, Sept. 4, 2016, from 4-7 p.m. at Tossing Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Grace Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. John C. Weatherhogg, senior minister, officiating. Burial will be in East Clarendon Cemetery. Following the burial a collation will be held in the church Fellowship Hall. Tossing Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
