MINOT - Geoffrey E. Low passed away on May 3, 2016. Geoff was born in Calais on March 20, 1948 to John and Theresa (Inman) Low.
Geoff grew up in Rockland where his love of the ocean began. During his junior year of high school, the family moved to South Portland. In 1966 Geoff joined the U.S. Army and served 6 years including one tour in Vietnam in 1968. During his time there he was exposed to agent orange, which affected him the rest of his life. After returning home, Geoff became interested in Police work and continued on to graduate the Criminal Justice Academy.
During his professional career he served for police departments in Knox County, Dixfield, Oxford County, along with the towns of Norway and Paris. After being with police for 32 years, Geoff worked as a dispatcher for Oxford County moving on to be a State Police dispatcher in Scarborough and later moved to the Gray barracks. Geoff retired from the State Police Dispatch in 2006.
Geoff married Koriene Korhonen Low in November 1981 and together they raised four amazing children: Geoffrey Ellis Low, Justin Howard, Robert Korhonen, and Elisha Allman. He recently decided with his talented children he could start his own town with all of the skills they had developed.
After his retirement he took jobs that kept him in touch with the public including driving part time for Fed Ex. Geoff's passion was racing both at the local and NASCAR levels. He was a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Jr. Racing in the figure eight division provided Geoff the opportunity to test his own skills. He won a Triple Crown Division in Figure Eight and stopped racing when the Figure Eight was eliminated several years ago. Upon the return of the series last year, he quickly built a car and then a second to be sure he could always have a car. He also worked on his Pro-Stock car with Shane Green learning the intricate details of their construction and being Shane's spotter.
Over the past years after retirement his greatest joy were his five amazing grandsons who he enjoyed spending as much time with as possible. Papa day care ran during the summer.
He is survived by his mother, Theresa (Inman) Low; his sister, Nancy Lambert and her husband Paul Lambert; his wife, Koriene Low of Minot; his children, Geoff Low, Robert Korhonen, Justin Howard, and Elisha Allman; five grandsons, Trevor Howard, Aidan Low, Tyler Howard, Theo Korhonen, and Augustus Korhonen. Geoff was predeceased by his father, John Low; an infant son, Geoffrey Low Jr.; and his aunt, Elizabeth Inman.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 7 at 10:30 a.m. at Riverside Annex Cemetery in South Paris.
