Gaylon's Story

BROOKS - Gaylon M. Kennedy, 89, passed away after a long illness at his home in Brooks on Friday March 18, 2016. Gaylon was born on August 16, 1926 in Moro Plantation, Maine.

Following high school in Patten, Maine Gaylon enlisted in the The United States Army Air Corps on March 21, 1944 to November 22, 1945. He was discharged to enlist in the Regular Army on November 23, 1945 where he served until he was honorably discharged on December 31, 1946.

Gaylon was employed for many years by the State of Maine as a Dept. Of Agriculture, Deputy State Sealer of Weights and Measures until his retirement.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 183 in Brooks and enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, astronomy and woodworking.

Gaylon was predeceased by his parents, Gustavus and Ida Kennedy; his brother, Warren Kennedy; sister, Joyce Berger; and granddaughter, Amy Kennedy.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys Kennedy; sons, Daniel Kennedy; his wife, Heather; Dana Kennedy, his wife Eileen; one grandson, three granddaughters, four great granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Richard Rote as well as the Waldo County Home Health and Hospice program for the many hours of excellent care.

Gaylon donated his body to the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. There will be a private family service at a time to be determined.
