NEWPORT & ETNA - Gary Evans Wolford, 72, passed away unexpectedly January 2, 2015 at his Newport residence. He was born August 2, 1942 in Williamsport, MD, a son of James and Edna (Jordan) Wolford. He graduated from Williamsport High School, where he was a tuba player and drum major; and entered the U. S. Army, where he served as a Green Beret, Master Sergeant and tank driver during the Vietnam War. Gary received 2 Purple Hearts. While living in Belfast, he was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be fondly remembered as an all around great guy. Gary retired as assistant manager at Paris Farmers Union in Newport.
He is survived by 1 son, Bill Wolford of Bangor; 2 sisters, Patsy Powell and Claudia "Petie" Smith, both of Maryland; 3 grandchildren, Jayson, Tyler, and Decklyn; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Wilma, and 2 brothers, William and James.
Graveside committal services will be held 11 A.M. Saturday, May 23rd, at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Etna. Memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P. O.
