MILO - Gary Wayne Thompson, 66, husband of Holly Ann (Morton) Thompson, passed away Jan. 31, 2015, at his home. He was born Feb. 8, 1948, in Millinocket, the son of Allen A. and Grace I. (Campbell) Thompson.
He was a graduate of Schenck High School, Class of 1967, and had served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam from 1967-1973. He was the recipient of two Purple Hearts, the Silver Oak Leaf Cluster for Bravery, and most recently, he received a Silver Star in 2010. He served with the Army National Guard from 1973-1976. Gary had worked at Great Northern Paper Company from 1967 until his retirement in 1992. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, side by siding, and especially spending time with his family.
He is survived by his first wife, Carol, and their two children, Ann White and her husband, Mark, and Mary Hanson and her husband, Joel; and by his second wife, Holly, and their children, Allysa Thompson and Reanne Bouchard and her husband, Kris. He leaves five grandchildren, Samuel Lyons, Stephanie Currie, Laycee White, and Christopher and Rachel Hanson; four great grandchildren, Travis Champney, Ella-Jo Young, Shayne Lyons, and baby Spencer Lyons. Gary was predeceased by his parents, four sisters, four brothers, and a grandson, Anthony Lyons.
Friends are invited to call from 3pm until time of funeral service at 4pm, Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2015, at the Lary Funeral Home, Milo, with Pastor Phil McGlauflin officiating. Burial with military honors in the family lot in the Hilltop Cemetery, Danforth, will take place in the spring.
