AUGUSTA - Gary Stephen Kirkpatrick, 68, of Augusta died on August 11, 2014 at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, with his family by his side.
Gary was born in 1946 in Hope Maine the son of the late Stephen W. and Laura (Storer) Kirkpatrick. He grew up in Union, Maine, graduating from Union High School in 1964. Gary had a mechanical talent at a young age and furthered his education at NMVTI in Presque Isle. He graduated, specializing in Automotive Mechanics, in 1966.
Gary joined the Naval Reserve in 1967 and was honorably discharged in 1977.
He married Julia Duguay in 1969, moving to Augusta to work and raise a family. He operated a gas station for three years, also repairing cars. In 1978 he and Julia built Kirkpatrick's Service Inc. on the Cony Road in Augusta, devoting all of his time to repairing cars. Gary was passionate about good customer service and quality work on Import Cars. Gary retired in 2013, trusting his son Stefan to carry on.
His happiest moments were spent with family. He loved downhill skiing. His ski trips to Jackson Hole with friends and Utah with his son Stephen were highlights of his life. Gardening and just being outdoors on his John Deere tractor made him happy. He enjoyed the companionship of his German Shepherd dogs over the years. After retirement he looked forward to fishing trips with his long time friends and drives to the coast.
Gary was predeceased by his parents, Sister Gail Whittier and her husband Bob of Union.
He is survived by his wife Julia (Julie), daughter Tracy and husband Jim Willis of Lamoine; sons Stephen B. and wife Traci Kirkpatrick of Belfast and Stefan G. and Amy Kirkpatrick of Chelsea; brother Richard Kirkpatrick; sister Jada Beardsley and husband Dan of Union, his much loved grandchildren Sara Willis, Tyler, Willoe, Sam, Owen and Drew Kirkpatrick, several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the Doctors, nurses and staff at the Alfond Center for Cancer Care for their wonderful care and compassion.
