- Galen Marden Lewis "Low Water Lew", 81 of Carmel, passed peacefully at his home on Wednesday, February 22, 2017. He was born March 28, 1935, in Carmel, Maine, to Guy M. And Hazel M.(Smith) Lewis.
Galen graduated from Carmel High School in 1954 and thereafter spending 2 years in the Naval Reserve and 2 years in Naval service, rising to 3rd class petty officer on the USS Salamonie. He also served in the Air National Guard. He married his high school sweetheart, Sandra Jean (Scripture) Lewis in 1961. They celebrated 55 years of marriage last December. After his Navy service, Galen spent his professional life in the plumbing and heating industry, opening his manufacturers representative agency, North Country Sales, in 1975. Galen was a volunteer at Spruce Run for many years.
In addition to his parents, Galen was predeceased by his sister, Cecil (Lewis) Alieff. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; his children, Daniel and Wendy; his granddaughter, Casey; brother, Sam Lewis; sister, Chloe (Lewis) Libby and her husband, Gerald; and many nieces and nephews.
Donations in his memory may be sent to Carmel Historical Society. Galen's quick wit and generosity will long be remembered by all.
