- Frederick D. Mayhew, affectionately known as "The Fudge Man," age 90, passed away into the Lord's keeping on March 28, 2017, with his family at his side. He is now making his fudge for everybody in Heaven.
Fred was born in Bangor, ME, on October 6, 1926, to Elmer E. and Esther V. (Hamlin) Mayhew. He was raised on a farm in Hampden.
He was a hard-working man during his lifetime. After returning home from WWII, he met the love of his life, A. Lillian Harju through a friend. They were married on New Years Eve in 1948. They were married for 56 years and when she died in 2005 Fred married his current wife Esther on January 6, 2007, after knowing each other for 30 years. They had ten years together.
He was predeceased by hist first wife, two daughters, his parents, two sisters, and his little dog Missy. He leaves behind his loving wife Esther, a daughter Paula Baptiste and son Paul Mayhew, both of Orono, and a daughter Beckie Morgan of Connecticut. He also leaves behind three granddaughters and a grandson, nine great grandchildren, and six stepchildren who loves him like a dad.
A memorial service will be held on April 1, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the Community Room at Roe Village in Hampden in which he resided, for family and friends. A graveside service will be held later in the spring at Locust Grove Cemetery in Hampden with Pastor Michael Lynn officiating.
