Frederick's Story

PRESQUE ISLE - Frederick R. Lyford, 91, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2016, Father's Day, at a Presque Isle health care facility. He was born Dec. 12, 1924, in Milo, the son of Roland and JoAn (Caswell) Lyford.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a medic. He worked for 39 years for the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad as a signalman. Fred volunteered at The Aroostook Medical Center for 23 years, which he truly loved.

He is survived by a son, Jim Lyford and his wife, Carolyn ,of Presque Isle, a daughter, Mary Condon and her husband, John, of Portage; two brothers, Paul Durant of Somersworth, N.H., and Thomas "Tommy" Durant of Arkansas; 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. He was predeceased by two wives, Doreen (Cheevers) Lyford and Harriet (Perry) Lyford; a brother, Roland Lyford; and a sister, Janette Osnoe.

A graveside service with military honors will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at Fairmount Cemetery with the Rev. Kevin Kinsey officiating.
