Columbia Falls - Frederick N. 'Fred' Crowley passed away Feb. 10, 2017, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 11, 1948, to Lawrence "Bill" and Gladys Crowley of Addison. He was part of the last graduating class of Addison High School in 1966 and was able to attend the 50th reunion this past summer. In 1967, he joined the USAF and was stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB - Tucson, AZ. He served two tours of of duty in Vietnam,and was also stationed in England. He was honorably discharged in 1975 with the rank of Sgt. While in Arizona he attended Pima Community College and was involved in the college theater, an interest that began in high school.
Fred was well known for his sense of humor, his infectious laugh and his love of puns. He was a huge sports fan, most namely the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots. His occupations were many, to include worm digger, much loved school bus driver, ambulance driver, basketball referee, fire fighter, and even hot air balloon chaser. Above all else, besides his family, Fred loved acting. Consistently throughout his life, from high school until recently he took part in productions in community theater; Columbia Players, Rubicon Playhouse, Down River Theater, Narraguagus Players, to name a few, often times involving his grandchildren as well. He loved being an extra in movies such as Used Cars, Stir Crazy, The Sacketts, Pet Sematary, and Thinner. He thoroughly enjoyed helping with the youth theater at both the Rubicon and at UMM.
Fred was devoted to his service organizations. He was a member and past master of Tuscan Lodge #106, Anah Shrine Mini Car Unit, VFW Post #11553, and the American Legion Post #8.
Fred is survived by his life partner Linda Harmon, daughter Sheri and husband Morton "Danny" Thaxter Jr., three grandsons Derek, Jared, and Kyle Thaxter, all of Columbia Falls; sister Florence Mayne and husband Bob of Browns Mills, New Jersey; brother Wayne Crowley and wife M.T. Clark of Wayne, Maine; Linda's two sons James and wife Kate, Jason and wife Megan, and their children of Ellsworth; daughter Sheri's mother Laura and husband Clyde Merrill, of Milbridge. He was predeceased by his parents, his second wife Cindi Sue Read Crowley, and his brother Glendon Crowley.
A service will be held at the VFW in Harrington on Sunday, Feb. 19th, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow. Committal will be in the spring. Arrangements entrusted to Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home in Milbridge, ME. Online condolences www.bragdonkelley.com
